Eva Tisnikar

Selection of talks, symposia and publications, where I discussed architectural research and my creative practice. Most recently I participated in a round table discussion in Singapore, which culminated in a publication of a whitepaper on Designing Cities for Every Mind. I spoke about the role of sound in inclusive urban design, and argued for a holistic approach to our sensory experience. Previous work explored power relations present in urban soundscapes, part of it published in Sage's Urban Studies, as well as ecopoetics and feminist new materialism through creative writing and critical spatial practice. I am indebted to Jane Rendell and David Roberts for their kind, critical, and creative approach to everything, especially their students.

Neurodesign Roundtable, Institute of Neurodiversity Singapore

Inaugural Neurodesign Roundtable: Re-Thinking Urban Spaces, where leaders across diverse fields of design, architecture, ecology, technology and community work came together to reimagine how cities can be redesigned to be more inclusive and serve every mind. I contributed with my work on sonic urbanism and the sensory experience of the built environment, for a hollistic perspective on how people experience spaces through sound, to deepen understanding of neuroinclusive design.

ENERGIES Symposium, DAAD Berlin

Energies brought together sonic artists, theorists and architects to explore acoustic energies at daadgalerie and rethink the relations between sound and architecture through conversations, listening sessions, screenings and workshops.
We explored themes of vibrational architectures, energetic and urban infrastructure, and the violent energies of harm and alarm, participants tuned into the state between the solid and the fluid, the fixed and the elusive, and the material and the immaterial that the energetic pulls us into.

A Festival of Feminist Architectural Writing | Re:arrangements and A Revisitation

Organised by The Bartlett’s Jane Rendell, Polly Gould and Sarah Butler, with Emma Cheatle and Hélène Frichot, this event was a celebration of feminist architectural writing with a festival of readings, conversations and discussions exploring legacies, current practices and future directions, and the launch of two new publications. I presented Tramontana: writing with-in the wind, as a response to the theme Ecopoetics.

Doing sonic urban ethnography: Voices from Shanghai, Berlin and London

Peer-reviewed article in Sage's Urban Studies journal, co-authored with Ana Aceska, Karolina Doughty, Muhammet Esat Tiryaki, Katherine Robinson, Eva Tisnikar, and Fang Xu. We argue that the promise of sonic urban ethnography lies in expanded practices of listening for alternative ways of knowing and engaging with the urban. We share four empirical vignettes from Shanghai, Berlin and London that illustrate the power exercised through sound in the urban environment.

Canvassing the Concept, The Ion Mincu University of Architecture Bucharest

Lecture series by young architects, designers and researchers from London for architecture students in Bucharest. Speakers shared different approaches to creative process, and how they balanced problem-solving and experimentation in recent projects. My lecture focused on critical spatial practice, responding to the theme 'Empirical turns Propositional'.
